An aerial view from the north, looking down Chuo-dori as it runs north to south along the west side of JR Akihabara Station. In a city where one viscerally senses the varying intensities of lacunarity across the earth — how will we fill the gaps as we move toward the future? The more we cram in, the more the voids assert their presence. The more we fill, the more new fissures spread. Voids that could no longer be filled horizontally were released vertically. When the lifespan of these masses expires, who will inherit the voids? At the center of the frame, the Niku no Mansei Akihabara Main Store had long been a beloved landmark in this area, but ceased operations in 2024, with demolition completed the following year. The site is now vacant, and construction is underway for the Akihabara Manseibashi Hotel (tentative name), scheduled to open in 2030.
